Mining, drilling and structural drilling supply

Mining operations rely on casing to stabilise drill holes, control ground conditions and maintain safe, predictable progress. We support mining and drilling buyers with heavy-wall casing, structural pipe and specialist grades suited to demanding ground conditions, operational pressure and project timelines.

Where Upstream Tubulars fits

  • Heavy-wall casing and structural pipe for mining and drilling environments
  • Useful for exploration drilling, pre-collars, overburden drilling and dewatering wells
  • Commercial review of heavy-wall and project-driven pipe requirements
  • Chrome and CRA discussions for corrosive or higher-pressure zones

Areas of particular relevance

  • Exploration drilling and pre-collar supply
  • Overburden drilling and casing-advance systems
  • Dewatering wells, screens and slotted pipe
  • Structural drilling and site-specific pipe supply
  • Overlap with piling, water and industrial project needs

How casing is used in mining and drilling

Casing is installed as the borehole is drilled to prevent collapse, manage water inflow and support drilling through loose or mixed formations. Modern casing-advance methods can drill and advance casing simultaneously, helping to keep the hole supported throughout the operation.

Common approaches include dual rotary drilling, casing advancement systems such as ring-bit methods, and driven casing in very loose ground. Once casing reaches competent rock, drilling can continue inside the supported hole.

Typical tubulars and associated items

  • API 5CT and heavy-wall casing
  • Structural pipe for drilling and ground support
  • Chrome and CRA grades for corrosive or high-pressure zones
  • Screens and slotted pipe for dewatering systems
  • Surplus and project-ready stock for rapid mobilisation
